Core Web Vitals are the three metrics Google uses to measure real-world experience: LCP (loading) should be 2.5s or less, INP (responsiveness) 200ms or less, and CLS (visual stability) 0.1 or less. They're measured from real users, not lab tests. A slow site ranks lower and loses customers — especially on UAE mobile data.

Note: INP replaced First Input Delay (FID) in March 2024. If a guide still mentions FID, it's out of date. INP is stricter because it measures every interaction on the page, not just the first.

Lab score vs real-world score

A common frustration: “My site scores 95 in the speed test but Search Console says it's failing.” That's because tools like Lighthouse are lab tests on one device, while Google judges you on field data — real Chrome users on real phones and networks, at the 75th percentile over 28 days. Optimise for real users, not a single perfect test run.

The fixes that actually work

Most slow UAE sites share the same causes. Here's what moves the numbers:

Fix LCP (loading)

  • Compress and correctly size images; serve modern formats like WebP/AVIF.
  • Use fast, reputable hosting — ideally with a CDN and edge caching close to the region.
  • Preload the main hero image and critical fonts; remove render-blocking code.

Fix INP (responsiveness)

  • Cut heavy JavaScript and unused third-party scripts (chat widgets, trackers, sliders).
  • Break up long tasks so the page responds instantly to taps.

Fix CLS (stability)

  • Set width and height on images and embeds so nothing jumps as it loads.
  • Reserve space for banners, ads and late-loading elements.

The single biggest culprit

In my experience, it's usually huge, uncompressed images and too many plugins/scripts. Fixing just those two often takes a failing site into the green. If you're on WordPress, quality hosting plus proper caching and image optimisation does most of the heavy lifting.
